Mufti Mohammad Muhibullahil Baqee An-Nadwi is a distinguished Islamic scholar and religious leader who is presently serving as the Acting Secretary General of the Central Shariah Board for Islamic Banks of Bangladesh (CSBIB). He holds the position of Imam and Khatib In-Charge of the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram.
He was born on 1 May 1974 in Kutubdia, Cox’s Bazar, to a respected religious family. His father is Moulana Abu Bakar Siddique. From early childhood, he devoted himself to Islamic education, memorizing the Holy Qur’an and mastering Tajwid and Qira’a. He obtained his Dhakil in 1988 and Kulliyyat-al-Hadith in 1989 with 1st division from Darul Uloom Moenul Islam, Hathazari, Chattogram. In 1991, he completed his Alimiyyah (equivalent to B.A. in Islamic Studies and Arabic Literature) from Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, Lucknow, India. Later, he earned an M.A. in Arabic from the University of Dhaka in 1997 with 1st class. He also obtained Fazil (1994) and Kamil (1996) from the Bangladesh Madrasha Education Board with 1st class, and has appeared for the Ph.D. degree at the University of Lucknow, India.
Mufti Baqee received professional training on Islamic Leadership and on Islamic Solutions for Economic Problems from Al-Azhar University, Egypt, in 2002. His academic qualifications and training reflect his deep engagement with both traditional Islamic scholarship and practical applications of Shariah in modern contexts.
Alongside his current role as Pesh Imam of the National Mosque, Mufti Baqee has been serving in multiple teaching and academic capacities. He is Shaikhul Hadith at Jamia Noria Qasemul Uloom (Rupnagar, Mirpur), Jamia Fazlul Uloom (Jurain, Jatrabari), and Jamia Arabia Darul Uloom (Naton Bagh, Rampura, Dhaka). He has also served in various educational and religious institutions across the country, including as Lecturer at Darul Ma’arif Al-Islamia, Chittagong (1991–1995), Assistant Khatib at Darul Ma’arif Masjid, Chittagong, and Lecturer in the Department of Qur’anic Sciences at the International Islamic University, Chittagong (1999–2000).
In the field of Islamic banking and finance, Mufti Baqee plays an active role in ensuring Shariah compliance and guidance. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Shariah Supervisory Committees of Agrani Bank, Premier Bank, Bengal Commercial Bank, and Bangladesh Commerce Bank. He is the Member Secretary of the Shariah Supervisory Committee of Pubali Bank, and a Member of the Shariah Supervisory Committees of Sonali Bank (Islamic Wing), Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited, First Security Islami Bank, and Global Islami Bank. Previously, he served as the Chairman (In-Charge) of the Shariah Supervisory Committee of Social Islami Bank.
In addition to his professional responsibilities, Mufti Baqee is engaged in social welfare and Islamic research. He is the General Secretary of the Allama Fazlullah Foundation, an organization devoted to welfare works, Islamic research, and publications. He has also served as an Adjudicator in the International Qur’an Hifz and Qira’at Competition (2006) held in Kerala, India.
His linguistic abilities include proficiency in Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Farsi, and Bengali, enabling him to teach and communicate Islamic knowledge effectively across diverse audiences.
Mufti Baqee has authored and presented several research papers and scholarly articles. His published works include “Moral Value in the Poetry of Johair Ibn Abi Salma” (in Manar-al-Sharq Magazine), “Transplantation of Human Organ in the Light of Islam” (presented at a seminar in Chittagong and later published in national newspapers), and “Hazrat Mohammad (Sm) to the Various Religious Books” (in Zomabar Magazine).
Throughout his career, Mufti Mohammad Muhibullahil Baqee An-Nadwi has remained committed to the dissemination of Islamic teachings, the implementation of Shariah principles in finance, and the moral development of society. His lifelong dedication to scholarship, teaching, and Shariah supervision continues to contribute significantly to the promotion of Islamic values and the development of Islamic banking in Bangladesh.
