Central Shariah Board holds views-exchange meeting on 'Compliance of Shariah in Islamic Banking'

Central Shariah Board for Islamic Banks of Bangladesh arranged a views-exchange meeting on January 20 Wednesday, 2021 at the board's Training Institute. Central Shariah Board's Chairman Professor Dr. Mohammad Gias Uddin Talukder presided over the meeting while Professor Dr. Abu Reza Muhammad Nezamuddin Nadwi, M.P, Member of Parliament 292, Chittagong-15 (Satkania-Lohagara) and Member, Standing Committee on the Ministry of Industry, Bangladesh National Parliament, was the Chief Guest. The Special Guests included: Mawlana M Shamaun Ali, Vice-chairman, Central Shariah Board, Mawlana Md. Mukhlesur Rahman, Mr. AQM Safiullah Arif, former Secretaries General of the Board  and Prof. Dr. H M Shahidul Islam Barakatee, Chairman, Shari'ah Supervisory Committee, Prime Bank Limited & Trust Bank Ltd.. Besides, Mufti Md. Muhibbullahil Baqi, Acting Khatib of National Mosque Baitul Mokarram, Mawlana Ahmadullah, Director, As-Sunnah Foundation, Mufti Mawlana Saiful Islam, Khatib, Masjiduttaqwa Society, Mr. Md. Golzare Nabi, Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh Bank, Dr. M. Mahabbat Hossain, Faculty Member, Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) and representatives of different banks and financial institutions were present in the meeting. Mr. Md. Abdullah Sharif, CIPA, CSAA, Secretary General of Central Shariah Board, gave the welcome speech while Mr. Syed Sakhawatul Islam, In-charge of Administration of the Board, acted as Moderator in the meeting.

The Chief Guest in his speech expressed satisfaction over the activities of Central Shariah Board and said the board should not be limited to the sphere of the country rather, it should work with international institutions like Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), Kuwait Finance House, ISRA etc. He advised to hold at least two international conferences, publish three journals annually and carry out research work. Special Guest Mawlana M Shamaun Ali shed light on the recent achievements of the Central Shariah Board and expresed determinaton to play more active role to ensure compliance of Shariah in Islamic banking in future. 

Additional Member Secretary of Shariah Supervisory Committee, Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd. Dr. Mohammad Ruhul Amin Rabbani presented the keynote paper on compliance of Shariah in the meeting. 

Chairman of the meeting and Central Shariah Board attached importance to arrange 'Islamic banking fairs' to introduce Islamic banking nationally and internationally and build up skilled and competent manpower to flousish this industry. To achieve this goal, he emphasised on exchange of views with leading universities and establishment of a university for banking and finance.
